The Tulsa Foundation for Architecture (TFA) announces three annual awards recognizing lasting contributions to Tulsa's built environment at the 5th Annual Foundation Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 22, at the Tulsa International Airport's Central Terminal, 7777 East Apache, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres and wine before and after the 6:30 p.m. presentation of awards by Karen Keith, Trustee of the TFA.
The Foundation Lifetime Achievement award will be awarded to Herb Fritz, AIA. This award is presented to a person whose life's work has been devoted to making Tulsa a better place to live. Fritz, founding principal and president of Fritz Baily Architects, has helped restore many of Tulsa's iconic buildings including the Fire Alarm Building, the Thomas Gilcrease Home, and the Travis Mansion. Fritz also served on the Tulsa Preservation Commission and as President of the Board of Trustees of the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture for over a dozen years each.
TFA will bestow a Leadership Award - which recognizes a site that has favorably embraced exceptional design and implementation. The recipient of this inaugural award is the Warren Place Site Improvements project at southwest corner of 61st and Yale.
The Foundation Landmark award will be awarded to the Tulsa International Airport. This award honors a physical artifact, building, structure, or place that is a significant part of Tulsa's heritage. The selected landmark is photographed and documented and the landmark's caretakers will be presented with a plaque at the awards event to be displayed on or near the landmark.
All awards have been nominated, considered and selected by a majority vote of a committee led by Tom Wallace, P.E., Foundation Awards Selection Committee Chairman.
The Foundation Awards Selection Committee members include Tom Wallace, P.E.; Mercedes Millberry, event chairman; Susie Woody, ASID; Marty Newman, Trustee, National Trust for Historic Preservation; Rachel Zebrowski, AIA; Shane Hood, Associate AIA; and John Lotti, AIA. Shawn Schaefer, Director of the University of Oklahoma Urban Design Studio, acted as advisor to the Awards Selection Committee.
